PreCardix® is a safe and effective supplement for cardiovascular health. PreCardix® contains unique bioactive marine peptides that have been studied in peer-reviewed clinical trials for its effect on blood pressure health. The clinical documentation was prepared by a third party clinical research organization (CRO) in accordance with clinical research standards governed by ethics review committees and process in Europe and North America.

PreCardix® is the result of over a decade of research and multi-million dollar investment conducted in partnership between the University of Tromso Norway and the R&D Institute Norfima and Marealis Health Inc. PreCardix®’s unique refined shrimp peptide concentrate (Marealis RSPC) is derived from the proteins of fresh, cold water Arctic shrimps (Pandalus Borealis) through a controlled enzymatic hydrolysis process. Enzymatic hydrolysis breaks down larger protein chains into smaller, peptide chains. These peptide chains are further refined into Marealis RSPC through a proprietary process resulting in a clinically proven bioactive peptide with an ACE inhibiting action.

PreCardix® does not have any known serious side effects. It has not been found to cause side effects sometimes associated with ACE inhibitor medication such as dry cough, itching, edema (swelling), high potassium levels, or hypotension (low blood pressure).

PreCardix® may cause moderate nausea and/or stomach discomfort. One case of mild euphoric mood, fatigue, upper abdominal pain, and headache occurred during the clinical trial.

Clinical research has not found any cases of hypotension when taking PreCardix®. There are also no documented cases of hypotension from our customers currently using PreCardix® either.

It’s important to consider various factors that may influence blood pressure readings, including time of day when you measure your blood pressure as blood pressure can fluctuate during the day. Factors that can affect blood pressure include caffeine and alcohol intake, smoking, exercise and stress levels.

To ensure accurate blood pressure readings, avoid smoking, caffeine, alcohol, and exercise 30 minutes before measurement. If feeling anxious or in pain, wait until those feelings have passed. Empty your bladder and sit comfortably in a supported chair with feet firmly planted on the ground.

Keep in mind that blood pressure is an average, and a single high reading is less significant than the overall average.

For the most accurate results, it is recommended to take two separate readings one minute apart, in the morning and evening. PreCardix® has been designed to be taken consistently for at least 8 weeks to achieve optimal results, and it should be continued to maintain those results.

PreCardix® has not been found to increase potassium levels. In the clinical trial, serum potassium levels were measured at baseline and at 8 weeks in all study participants. There was no clinically significant difference between potassium levels at both baseline and at 8 weeks between the placebo and treatment group. However, considering PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides’ ACE-inhibiting action, caution should be taken when using PreCardix® with agents that increase serum potassium such as potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, and potassium-containing salts. Individuals using any of these combinations should have serum potassium levels monitored frequently.

Share the PreCardix® product monograph with your health care provider who can advise you on drug interactions, contra-indications and other factors related to your health to help determine if PreCardix® is appropriate for you.

PreCardix® should not be used in patients with known shellfish allergies. The active ACE-inhibiting peptides in PreCardix® are derived from the shells of arctic cold-water shrimp.

PreCardix® has not been studied in pregnancy or breastfeeding and should be avoided throughout the entire gestational period due to the potential teratogen effects of ACE inhibitors. Women who are breastfeeding should not take PreCardix®.

Children under the age of 18 should not take PreCardix®.

Any suspected side effects associated with the use of PreCardix® should be reported to Health Canada. For more information regarding reporting online, by mail or fax, visit their Adverse Reaction Reporting website here, or call toll-free at 1-866-234-2345.

Manufacturing Standards

PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides are derived from Norwegian coldwater shrimp, and locally sourced non-medicinal ingredients. PreCardix® is manufactured in North America.

Each tablet of PreCardix® contains 600 mg of protein hydrolysate from cold water shrimp (Pandalus borealis) shell. The active medicinal ingredient is Refined Shrimp Peptide Concentrate (RSPC) made up of peptides 2-7 amino acids long which pass unmodified into the bloodstream. These bioactive peptides work synergistically to produce ACE-inhibiting effects. Some peptides exert direct ACE-inhibition and two of the most potent constituents in PreCardix® have been patented. The non-medicinal ingredients required for tablet manufacturing and palatability are microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, polyethylene glycol, talc (less than 20mg of USP-NF talc in the tablet’s coating), polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide.

PreCardix® is derived from the shells of cold-water Arctic shrimps (Pandalus Borealis). No other shellfish or species are used to produce PreCardix®.

PreCardix® contains a unique refined shrimp peptide concentrate (Marealis RSPC). This unique peptide concentrate is derived from the proteins of fresh, cold water Arctic shrimps (Pandalus Borealis) through a controlled enzymatic hydrolysis process. Enzymatic hydrolysis breaks down larger protein chains into smaller, peptide chains. These peptide chains are further refined into Marealis RSPC through a proprietary process resulting in bioactive marine peptide with an ACE inhibiting action.

Yes, the production process of PreCardix® is completely safe. There are no artificial substances added in the production process, and the production facilities are approved to the strictest standards in Norway and Canada. The product itself has also gone through extensive studies on animals and humans to prove its safety.

PreCardix® contains USP-NF Talc. The United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Incorporated, (USP) is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed, and consumed worldwide. USP Grade means a product meets all requirements in the USP monograph for that product and is manufactured in a cGMP compliant facility. NF Grade means a product meets all requirements in the NF monograph and is produced in a cGMP compliant facility. Each PreCardix® tablet contains less than 20mg (about twice the weight of a grain of table salt) of USP-NF talc which is used in the tablet’s coating. Customer concerns are related to the use of talc topically as in talcum powder or asbestos contamination. USP-NF talc does not contain asbestos, and it is safe to consume as a supplement ingredient. You can learn more about the requirements for USP-NF talc here. PreCardix® has been tested in multiple safety and efficacy studies internationally, and has been approved for sale by Health Canada, the FDA, and the European Food Safety Authority.

The iodine content of PreCardix® has been analyzed in a laboratory setting and determined to be 40.3mg/kg, or 0.048 mg of iodine in a daily dose of 2 tablets of PreCardix® (the amount of active ingredient per daily dose of PreCardix® is 1,200 mg of shrimp peptide concentrate).

For reference, the daily recommended intake of iodine for a healthy adult is 150mcg, or 0.15 mg. Therefore, each daily dose of PreCardix® fulfills approximately 1/3rd of the recommended daily intake of iodine in healthy adults. Please discuss with your health care provider if this is an appropriate level of iodine for you, especially if you have any underlying conditions or are taking any medications and/or supplements.

The shells of 1 kg of shrimp, when extracted and refined through our proprietary controlled enzymatic hydrolysis process, provide the active ingredient equaling approximately a 1-month dosage of PreCardix®. The shrimp proteins are refined through a proprietary enzymatic hydrolysis process to produce the ACE-inhibiting attributes associated with the peptides in the final product. Shells contain in-tact proteins and would not have the same effect on blood pressure.

None of the inactive ingredients in PreCardix® are derived from animal sources

Mechanism of Action

PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides have a clinically documented ACE inhibiting action. ACE inhibitors affect blood pressure by preventing ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) from converting angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2. Angiotensin 2 increases blood pressure in several ways, including stimulating sodium and fluid retention and constricting blood vessels. Inhibiting excess levels of ACE reduces angiotensin 2.

PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides have a clinically documented ACE inhibiting action. ACE inhibitors affect blood pressure by preventing ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) from converting angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2. Clinical trials have shown that 89% of participants experienced a significant effect on their blood pressure health within 8 weeks or less. Therefore, we always advise people to try PreCardix® for at least 8 weeks before being able to determine if it works for you.

PreCardix® is a unique composition of thousands of bioactive marine peptides derived from the shells of arctic cold-water shrimp. These short-chain peptides are isolated through a proprietary hydrolysis process. It is hypothesized by the PreCardix® research and development team that this unique combination of peptides mitigates the adverse effects seen with single-molecule ACE-inhibitors. It should be noted that this is a theory and further research on peptide-specific mechanisms of action is being conducted.

Unfortunately not. The bioactive marine peptides in PreCardix® are extracted through an extensive and patented production process where the natural proteins in the shrimp shells are broken down into smaller amino acid chains (peptides) through a controlled enzymatic hydrolysis process.

The enzymes added in the production process, splice the proteins into smaller fractions and thus create the extraordinary blood pressure health attributes. By consuming shrimps (or shrimp shells) in their natural form, you would be consuming the full length proteins. The body is not able to process the larger proteins into the smaller peptides found in the final PreCardix® tablet.

Therefore, these proteins won’t have the same effect on blood pressure health.

PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides are derived from sustainable cold water Arctic Shrimps (Pandalus Borealis) through a process called controlled enzymatic hydrolysis. This process breaks down shrimp proteins into smaller fragments called peptides. These proprietary PreCardix® peptides have been clinically proven to have a statistically significant effect on blood pressure health.

These peptides remain intact in the digestive system and enter the blood stream where they have an ACE inhibiting action. Further breakdown of these peptides occurs in the blood plasma, liver, and kidneys, and enzymatically where the peptides become amino acids, after the peptides have had the intended effect.

Blood Pressure Health

Hypertension is the medical term used to describe high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of the blood pumped from the heart against the blood vessels. This force makes blood flow possible, delivering nutrients and oxygen to organs and tissues throughout the body. Hypertension occurs when there is too much pressure in your blood vessels. This can damage your blood vessels and cause health problems. Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but it becomes more common as you get older.

The first step in understanding high blood pressure is learning what your numbers mean. Blood pressure is measured with two numbers: systolic (the higher number) and diastolic (the lower number) (e.g., 120/80 mmHg): Systolic pressure occurs when your heart contracts. Diastolic pressure occurs when your heart relaxes and fills with blood. Blood pressure is measured using millimeters of mercury (mmHg), a standardized measurement of pressure. The higher your systolic or diastolic blood pressure – and the longer it stays high – the greater the potential damage to your blood vessels. Always consult with your health care provider before making changes to your blood pressure management plan.

It is considered low blood pressure when the systolic blood pressure (the top number) is below 90 mmHg and/or the diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number) is below 60 mmHg.
Some people have low blood pressure but it doesn’t cause any symptoms and it isn’t a cause for concern. In fact, most doctors don’t consider low blood pressure a problem if there are no symptoms and no other warning signs.
Other people can have low blood pressure due to an underlying medical condition or medication which must be treated and addressed.
If you have low blood pressure or are experiencing symptoms of low blood pressure, talk to your health care provider.
What can cause low blood pressure?
There are many causes of low blood pressure. Some people naturally have lower blood pressure and it isn’t a cause for concern if they don’t have symptoms.
In other cases, low blood pressure is caused by something that needs to be treated. Some of the causes of low blood pressure include:
  • Dehydration
  • Medication side effects
  • Heart disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Blood loss
  • Severe infection (septicemia)
  • Severe allergy (anaphylaxis)
  • Endocrine problems
  • Nutritional deficiencies
These causes can range from easily treatable conditions to medical emergencies in the case of severe infection or allergy. Severely low blood pressure can deprive the brain and body of oxygen and lead to organ damage.
If you have low blood pressure, talk to your healthcare provider to determine if it’s cause for concern and needs to be treated.
What are the symptoms of low blood pressure?
Symptoms of low blood pressure to look out for are:
  • Dizziness / light headedness
  • Weakness
  • Loss of concentration / focus
  • Fatigue
  • Blurred or loss of vision
  • Nausea
  • Fainting

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, talk to your healthcare practitioner.

We talk a lot about the top number when it comes to blood pressure, but the bottom number is important as well. The top number (systolic blood pressure) refers to the blood pressure when the heart is contracting. The bottom number (diastolic blood pressure) refers to the blood pressure when the heart is relaxing, which is why this number is typically lower than the top. The target for the lower number is below 80, however, blood pressure targets can depend on your age and other factors so speak to your doctor to determine what your blood pressure targets should be. Low diastolic pressure can be a concern if it is associated with dizziness or lightheadedness. The diastolic number can drop with certain medications, dehydration and with stiffening of arteries as we age. Speak to your doctor if you have concerns about your diastolic blood pressure.

According to Hypertension Canada, some people have higher blood pressure at the doctor’s office, yet normal blood pressure otherwise, so they do not have hypertension at all. It is called white coat hypertension or syndrome, referring to the white lab coats worn by some health care professionals and can be ruled out with home blood pressure monitoring.

Co-administration with Medications

Consult with your primary health care provider before adding PreCardix® along-side other medications or supplements. Do not discontinue current medication without consulting with your health care provider. PreCardix® is not a substitute for medication. Monitor blood pressure regularly.

PreCardix® was not studied in combination with other medications or supplements. Interactions are inferred based on documented interactions of common ACE inhibiting drugs. Other interactions may also occur.

  • The effect of PreCardix® on blood pressure may be augmented by other blood pressure medication or natural health products and cause low blood pressure. This effect has been well-documented with individuals combining alpha-blocking medication and ACE inhibitors after the first dose. Monitor for this potential effect.
  • PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides did not increase potassium levels in the clinical trial. However, due to the ACE inhibiting action, potassium levels should be monitored frequently, particularly with agents that increase serum potassium, such as potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, and potassium-containing salts.
  • A possible causal relationship between ACE inhibitor treatments and allopurinol (a pharmaceutical treatment for gout) may lead to hypersensitivity. PreCardix® should be used cautiously with allopurinol until further research establishes safety.
  • The use of NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen) may reduce the effect of ACE inhibiting medication. Monitor blood pressure regularly if you are taking NSAIDs with PreCardix®.
  • Intravenous iron infusion should be administered cautiously in individuals using PreCardix®. ACE inhibitors may augment the systemic effects of IV iron. Oral iron supplementation is not a concern.
  • Individuals taking lithium should have lithium levels monitored frequently. ACE inhibitors may decrease renal elimination of lithium, leading to lithium toxicity (CNS symptoms, ECG changes, renal failure). PreCardix® was not studied along-side lithium medication

Share the PreCardix® product monograph with your health care provider who can advise you on drug interactions, contra-indications and other factors related to your health to help determine if PreCardix® is appropriate for you.

PreCardix® clinical trials were conducted on a healthy population who were not on any type of medication and had no other health conditions other than mild-moderately elevated blood pressure. Individuals with pre-existing medical conditions should speak with their health care provider before introducing PreCardix® to ensure safety and wellbeing. Similarly, individuals who are on any medications or supplements should be closely monitored by their primary health care provider before introducing PreCardix®.

Share the PreCardix® product monograph with your health care provider who can advise you on drug interactions, contra-indications and other factors related to your health to help determine if PreCardix® is appropriate for you.

PreCardix® has not been studied in individuals with a history of angioedema related to the previous use of ACE inhibitors and should be avoided in this population. PreCardix® has not been studied in individuals who have renal artery stenosis and should be avoided in this population based on the known contraindication with pharmaceutical ACE inhibitor medication. Individuals who have an allergy to shellfish should not take PreCardix®.

For additional information please refer to Product Information and Directions.

Always consult with your health care provider before making changes to your blood pressure management plan. PreCardix® does not treat, cure or prevent medical conditions.  Measure and monitor blood pressure regularly. Know the signs of heart attack and stroke. Do not take PreCardix® if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have renal artery stenosis, history of angioneurotic edema or shellfish allergy.

Dosing and Administration

In our trials and testing, we have conducted extensive research on the safety and efficacy of PreCardix®. While our findings from a toxicology study indicate that doses up to 100 times the recommended daily dose did not cause hypotension, other overdose reactions or safety issues, the dose used in clinical trials was 2 tablets together daily, therefore making this the recommended daily dose.

It is best to take PreCardix® away from food, medications, supplements as well as caffeinated drinks, as these may interfere with the absorption of the product and reduce its positive impact on blood pressure health. Since caffeine can be a factor in elevated blood pressure, it is recommended to measure your blood pressure before and after consuming caffeine to determine potential effects on blood pressure levels. For long-term monitoring, blood pressure should be measured before drinking caffeinated drinks. For additional questions, please contact us at support@precardix.ca.

Follow the directions on the package. The recommended dosage is to take two (2) tablets  (1200mg) together once daily, preferably away from food. Continue to take daily to maintain results. Blood pressure may rise to pre-treatment levels if it is discontinued.

In clinical trials, participants took two tablets of PreCardix® together, in between meals and in the morning.

89% of participants experienced a significant effect on their blood pressure within 8 weeks. This is the reason we advise taking two tablets of PreCardix® (1200mg) together once daily, preferably away from food. Allow 8 weeks (2 packs) to achieve results. Continue to take daily to maintain results.

The reason that we advise to take PreCardix® before noon is the simple fact that in our clinical trial, two tablets of PreCardix® were taken every morning. We recommend taking PreCardix® daily before noon, a few hours before or after medications, and preferably away from natural health products or food to maximize absorption of the bioactive marine peptides. This was the dosing strategy used in the clinical study that found a significant effect on blood pressure health in 89% of trial participants, in 8 weeks or less.

Measure your blood pressure (before starting PreCardix® twice in the morning and twice in the evening for 7 days in a row. Discard the first day of readings and average the last 6 days. Record in this printable (PDF) or the PreCardix® blood pressure app.  Share this information with your health care provider to discuss your baseline blood pressure readings and how to best support your blood pressure health.

Measure your weekly blood pressure once a week, twice each morning and each evening every day for eight weeks. Record your blood pressure using the PreCardix® blood pressure App or a blood pressure log.

Calculate your average blood pressure using the PreCardix® blood pressure App or a blood pressure log. Compare your baseline blood pressure to your blood pressure after eight weeks. Every 2mmHg improvement in blood pressure has a positive effect on outcomes.

Despite the size of the tablets, they have a smooth coating that makes them easy to swallow. However, if you are unable to swallow them whole, we recommend breaking them in half. When breaking the coating, the ‘marine flavor’ will likely be noticeable, and so we would not recommend crushing the tablets or dissolving them in water, as moisture is not ideal for the ingredient.
Take two PreCardix® tablets together, 1 time per day. Take a few hours (2-3 hours) before or after taking other medications or natural health products. Take between meals, before noon.

When taking PreCardix® as directed, you may see an improvement in blood pressure within 2-8 weeks. You should take PreCardix® for a minimum of 8 weeks before determining if it works for you. In the clinical trial, 31% of participants experienced a significant effect on their blood pressure compared to baseline after just 2 weeks, while 89% of participants experienced a significant effect in blood pressure compared to baseline after 8 weeks.

Continue to take PreCardix® daily to maintain results.

PreCardix® can be taken to support cardiovascular health. Maintaining healthy blood pressure is especially important if there is a family history of stroke, heart attack or high blood pressure. Yes, the peptides in PreCardix® should be considered as part of your daily protein consumption, however they only contain a very small amount of protein. Most official nutrition organizations recommend a modest protein intake of around 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. The daily dosage of protein found in PreCardix® is 1.2 grams. If your body weight is 70 kg this means you still need an additional daily protein intake of 54.8 grams.

PreCardix® has been studied in an adult population who are experiencing mild-moderately elevated blood pressure. PreCardix® has not been studied in patients with blood sugar regulation concerns and we have no data to suggest it impacts blood sugar levels.

PreCardix® tablets contain a unique refined shrimp peptide concentrate (Marealis RSPC). This unique peptide concentrate is derived from the proteins of fresh, cold water Arctic shrimp shells (Pandalus Borealis) through a controlled enzymatic hydrolysis process. Enzymatic hydrolysis breaks down larger protein chains into smaller, peptide chains. These peptide chains are further refined into Marealis RSPC through a proprietary process resulting in a clinically proven bioactive peptide with an ACE inhibiting action.

The amount of active ingredient per recommended daily dosage of 2 tablets is 1,200 mg of shrimp peptide concentrate. In the earlier stages of our research and clinical studies, an important finding was that 1,200 mg of shrimp peptide concentrate is needed daily for it to have a significant effect on blood pressure health. In further clinical studies, 2 tablets of PreCardix® were taken simultaneously daily and 89% of clinical trial participants experienced a significant effect on their blood pressure health within 8 weeks (about 2 months) or less. Therefore, it is important that 2 tablets of PreCardix® are taken together every day.

PreCardix® did not impact serum potassium or kidney function in clinical research. Considering PreCardix® bioactive marine peptides have a natural ACE-inhibiting action, monitoring these parameters along with blood sugars at baseline and throughout treatment may be warranted at your health care provider’s discretion.
