PreCardix® Helps Maintain A Healthy Blood Pressure

Andy the registered dietician reviews PreCardix® – A natural product backed by clinical research.

By Andy De Santis RD, MPH | August 2022

Maintaining a healthy blood pressure is a key component of good health because blood pressure is tightly linked with cardiovascular health and elevated blood pressure is one of the most commonly reported conditions for which Canadians are prescribed medication for.

A healthy blood pressure is often achieved and maintained through a variety of means including physical activity, healthy diet, stress management practices (yoga, meditation) and there is an emerging role for natural health products to contribute in this area as well.

There are a large number of individuals in this country who have mild to moderate elevated blood pressure levels and are seeking out strategies in each of these realms to assist them in maintaining a healthy blood pressure.

That’s exactly where PreCardix®, with whom this content is presented in collaboration with, comes into play.

PreCardix® is a natural health product that is approved by Health Canada and contains a unique bioactive ingredient – marine peptides produced from hydrolyzed shrimp shell proteins – which has been demonstrated to be able to contribute to the maintenance of a healthy blood pressure.

I’ve personally written a number of books and blog posts on various diet related management strategies for blood pressure management, but this particular product is one that previously missed my radar and so I’m very thrilled to be sharing details about it here today.

With that said, let’s get to the good stuff. What Is PreCardix®

Sustainably sourced from the arctic sea, the bioactive marine peptides contained within PreCardix®  have been found to have a natural ACE inhibiting effect, which means they cause relaxation of the blood vessels by blocking enzymes that are responsible for restricting/tightening them.

Recently conducted clinical research published in the Journal Of Hypertension has demonstrated the utility of this effect on blood pressure management, so let’s talk a bit more about that study and what it might mean for those living with mild to moderately elevated blood pressure.

Study Structure:   The study in question is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, considered the gold-standard method of experimental study.

Target Population:  Adults aged 30-75 with mild to moderately elevated blood pressure– meaning  SBP 140 to 160 mmHg and DBP ≤100 mmHg who are not on blood pressure medication.

Dosage/Duration:   1200 mg per day of bioactive marine peptides over an 8 week period. I will also note here that PreCardix®  – used as recommended – delivers this same dosage.

Results:  The bioactive marine peptide treatment had a statistically significant effect on the blood pressure of 89% of the participants. The average improvement in blood pressure was 6.7 mmHg is systolic blood pressure and 1.7 mmHG in diastolic blood pressure within 8 weeks1. These results are in comparison to baseline blood pressure (participants’ blood pressure before introducing PreCardix®). PreCardix® does not have any known serious side effects1.

PreCardix® represents a new tool for those of you out there with mild to moderately elevated blood pressure levels looking to compliment your current blood pressure management routine alongside other diet/lifestyle considerations.
