Step 1: Know your numbers and lifestyle modifications.

When it comes to your blood pressure the most important first step is knowing what your numbers are. Measuring and monitoring correctly is important when it comes to getting to know your numbers. Your results, along with other factors affecting blood pressure such as diet, exercise and stress will help you and your health care provider develop a customized blood pressure management plan that is right for you.

Know your blood pressure numbers

Hypertension Canada recommends lifestyle change for both the prevention and management of blood pressure concerns. Examples of lifestyle changes that have been proven to effectively help with blood pressure health include achieving adequate exercise levels, stress reduction, smoking cessation and targeted dietary interventions, like the DASH diet. Making small but consistent changes in your lifestyle choices can lead to impactful decreases in your blood pressure, reducing your risk of cardiovascular events.

The DASH Diet is a whole foods diet that emphasizes eating plenty of vegetables and fruit, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, lean meats, fish, legumes and nuts. It also stresses the importance of limiting daily sodium to 1,500-2,300 mg each day (that’s ½ -1 tsp of salt/day).

Stress is one of several modifiable risk factors for blood pressure concerns. In our fast-paced and stress-filled world, stress management has become essential for mental and physical wellbeing. Your cardiovascular health is no exception! Stress reduction techniques like mindfulness and meditation can have a significant impact on your blood pressure health.

Physical activity provides a positive reduction in sympathetic nervous system activity, helping to keep your arteries flexible, and reducing blood pressure. The type of exercise you choose doesn’t have to be too strenuous; walking, gardening, light jogging, and swimming are all excellent options. Even losing a small amount of weight can make a significant improvement to your blood pressure, but regular exercise can be of great benefit even if you’re not overweight, so try to make it a lifelong habit.

Pro Tip!

Remember to measure and monitor your blood pressure, and review your blood pressure plan with your health care provider regularly.

Hypertension Canada breaks down blood pressure categories and the appropriate recommendations as follows:

Hypertension Canada blood pressure management guidelines

These blood pressure targets are for adults under the age of 80 and only serve as a guide. Ranges may be lower for children and teenagers. Talk to your child’s health care professional if you think your child has high blood pressure. Ranges are higher for people over the age of 80.

Step 3: Purchase your two packs of PreCardix® (8 week supply).

If PreCardix® is appropriate for you, purchase your 2 packs of PreCardix® here.

Step 4: Establish your baseline blood pressure.

If you’re just starting to measure your blood pressure at home, it’s important to calculate your baseline blood pressure correctly.

An example of a blood pressure reading is 120/80. The top number is your systolic blood pressure. The bottom number is your diastolic blood pressure.

Measure your blood pressure (before starting PreCardix®) twice in the morning and twice in the evening for 7 days in a row. Discard the first day of readings and average the last 6 days.

Step 5: Take PreCardix® as recommended.

Adults: Take two (2) tablets together daily, preferable away from food.

Allow up to 8 weeks (2 packs) to achieve results and continue to take daily to maintain results. Measure and monitor blood pressure regularly.

Consult with your health care provider before making changes to your blood pressure management plan.

Step 6: Monitor blood pressure for 8 weeks while taking PreCardix®.

Please record your blood pressure each week. Example reading: 120/80. At the end of eight weeks record the difference between your baseline blood pressure and your week 8 blood pressure.

Read more on measuring your blood pressure properly at home here.

Step 7: Determine if PreCardix® has been effective for you.

Measure your blood pressure (after having taken PreCardix® for 8 weeks) twice in the morning and twice in the evening for 7 days in a row. Discard the first day of readings and average the last 6 days. Record in the table. Note the difference in blood pressure.

We know that even a 1-2 mmHg reduction in diastolic or systolic blood pressure can lead to a reduced incidence of heart failure, coronary heart disease, and stroke.  Research has found that  a 5 mmHg reduction in SBP results in a;

  • 14% reduction in heart failure
  • 13% reduction in stroke
  • 7% reduction in ischaemic heart disease
  • 5% reduction in mortality due to cardiovascular disease

There are five important factors to consider when determining the effectiveness of PreCardix®:

1. PreCardix® was taken as directed – 2 tablets together daily preferably away from food, for at least eight weeks.

2. Blood pressure at eight weeks was compared to baseline blood pressure before introducing PreCardix®.

3. Baseline blood pressure was established by measuring blood pressure two times each morning and evening for one week before introducing PreCardix®.

4. Blood pressure at eight weeks was established by measuring blood pressure for one week two times each morning and evening, eight weeks after introducing PreCardix®.

5. Lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, stress and other habits have not changed negatively.

If you have completed these five steps and have not experienced the desired effect in your blood pressure, please discuss options with your health care provider. If you choose to discontinue PreCardix®, and you purchased your 2 packs at London Drugs (either in store and online), Nature’s Source, Amazon or on Precardix.com, you are eligible for our Money Back Guarantee program.  Please ensure to keep your proof of purchase for the 2 packs. What results can I expect after taking PreCardix® for 8 weeks?

The effect of PreCardix® on blood pressure observed in study participants ranged from 0 – 38 mmHg for systolic blood pressure and 0 – 28.7 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure compared to individual baselines (blood pressure results per participant at the start of the study). Compared to baseline, the average improvement in blood pressure was 6.7 mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 1.7 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure within 8 weeks1.

The speed of effectiveness also varied by the individual during the clinical trial. 31% of adults experienced significant effects after two weeks, and 89% experienced significant effects by eight weeks.
